Among the people I interact with the self reported aphantasia seems much much higher probably because I have a biased sampling.

If you have aphantasia, how can you recognize anything? If someone asks you to find the green apple in a basket of fruit, why wouldn’t you pick the yellow banana?

I still have qualia and I can still recognize objects :) It's just that visual imagination is sparse. It seems that memory for sensory experiences is unaffected. I still remember what my friends look like even if I can't vividly bring their faces to memory. It's weird!

What do you think that people who claim they don’t have aphantasia experience? Do you think they are able to conjure a sensory hallucination indistinguishable from “direct” experience?
