My own take at free will (actually, I just made a post on that a couple of days ago) is that it comes not from determinism or indeterminism of the world, but it's something that comes up in making choices in not-easily-algorithmically-solved matters. Like, if you look at the examples that people provide for someone exercising free will, it's mostly not about the matters like "this candy is $2 at store A and $4 at store B, which should I buy". Instead, it's more about choices between love and duty, or money and peace of mind, or something else where the two forks cannot be directly compared by the same units of measure, and usually it's a character-defining moment.
